Yume Nikki is a game that can feel very lonely at times, as there aren't many NPCs. There's no dialogue whatsoever and most of the characters just make a simple noise when interacted with, or have a small reaction to a certain effect. Even with the lack of dialogue and interaction, I adore the NPCs! They have such unique yet simple designs; I can't help but love them ..! A few characters may even be recognizable to one who doesn’t know much of Yume Nikki, such as Monoko or Uboa. Here are a few of my favorites ..!
O-Man resides in a room hidden away at the Mall, playing a small little tune .. This tune is very comforting to me .. It makes me feel as if O-Man is trying to console Madotsuki for whatever is troubling her .. Beside him is a flute that gives Mado the flute effect, almost as if he is gifting her himself!
Walking Lamp .. what more could you ask for .. Found in Lamp World, It is a lamp with cute shoes! It also gives Madotsuki the lamp effect, thank you Walking Lamp!
FC Demon, otherwise known as the FC Oni or Imp, can be found in both the FC House and in FC World B. They give Mado the demon effect .. with a kiss! ♡
Mafurako is a girl that can be found wandering around Block World! At first, she actually appears invisible, only her hat and scarf allowed to be seen. However, if Madotsuki uses the stoplight effect, the player can see her true self. She will also follow Mado around if she is a snowman (which can be achieved with the hat & scarf effect while it is snowing). I think she is cute!
Monoe and Monoko are the two monochrome sisters that reside in the White Desert! Both have their own events; Monoe shows a close-up of her face before disappearing from the player's view, and Monoko (when Mado uses the stoplight effect) will grow a few limbs and start spinning to a sick beat. I think their designs are really neat!
Poniko is a girl who lives in a cone house in the Pink Sea. Her design is cute and her room looks lovely! Her expression may indicate an annoyance towards Madotsuki, especially if the player decides to play around with the lightswitch in her room. This is not recommended, however! Poniko may take a dramatic change ..!
Seccom Masada-Sensei is an alien with googly eyes that is found in his Spaceship. He makes a sound when interacted with. If Madotsuki manages to be on the Spaceship while it is crashing, interacting with Masada will have him make a more distressed sound. Well if my Spaceship was crashing, I would be in distress too ..!
Mars-San is a lonely creature found in the deepest area of Madotsuki's dreams, the Martian Underground in Mars. Oh my .. it makes me so sad ..! Its one singular eye is seen constantly crying .. It is surrounded by broken machinery .. Mars-San probably hasn't seen a visitor in so long .. I'm glad that Madotsuki was able to find it .. I think they are lovely friends ..
